BELFAST — Waldo County General Hospital’s volunteer program welcomes men and women over the age of 18. Most volunteers donate 4-6 hours a day once or twice a month. Lunch is provided to each volunteer working at least four hours in a day.

While volunteers offer their services free of charge to WCGH, they do receive many benefits. Volunteers who work in the hospital receive a free flu shot. The Aid has monthly membership meetings from September-May with a featured speaker from the hospital staff or community on a health-care topic. Some meetings are purely for fun such as an auction, a recognition coffee and an annual meeting where members receive an award for reaching a milestone of volunteer hours.

The following are just a few of the tasks that need volunteer support:

At the hospital, volunteers work in Central Registration, perform clerical duties, work in the gift shop, greet and transport patients and work in the mail room.

At clinics and fairs, volunteers work on the blood drive, hypertension clinic, Medication Safety Fair, Prostate Clinic, give tours for second-graders and work at the Waldo County Health Fair.

At fund-raising events, volunteers help out with the Christmas raffle, participate in the garden walk, assist with the Holiday Silver Tea, as well as with the Oncology Walk and Spring Raffle and Yard Sale.

If interested, call Community Relations at 930-6739 for an application and give your name and address or send an e-mail message with your request to: inquires@wchi.com. A membership fee of $10 per year is required, which assures that you are invited to all Aid events and receive the hospital’s newsletter.
